job title or being your own boss

job title or being your own boss

Amidst my job search, I've been deeply reflecting on what truly matters to me as an artist, creator, and digital enthusiast. My heart lies in the film industry, but unfortunately, strikes have impacted me heavily, forcing me to consider my next move. Applying for creative jobs in my field has become increasingly challenging, not just due to competition but also because I can't shake the feeling of applying for jobs I'm not sure I truly want.

Pouring all my creative talent and energy into an entity that won't contribute to building a brand or a legacy to pass down to my own children has been disheartening. Our society often operates under the formula of getting a degree and then a job, and while I understand the need for financial stability, I believe it's crucial to reserve our energy for creating our own legacy and pursuing our truest passions.

On a positive note, I stumbled upon a new industry I had never considered before: accounting. Despite its reputation for being boring, I now realize it can keep me intellectually challenged, something I love. Learning that my previous boss on the last show made $180K without needing a degree left me sold, especially when he suggested I could reach his level in just four years.

However, this mindset shift is based on my actual goals: financial stability in a career I genuinely like and provides some form of present and future value but doesn't drain my life and creativity, the ability to travel, and the freedom to develop my passions, and my empire. The idea of building something meaningful, leaving a lasting impact, and passing it down to future generations resonates deeply with me.

I've spent many days in prayer, meditation, and stillness, transitioning from sadness over rejection to a profound epiphany. I now see the importance of conserving my mental energy for my own empire and advocating for my creative time. The idea of endlessly shopping myself and my skills to the highest bidder on job boards felt cringy, knowing that I could end up spending decades building someone else's dreams instead of my own.

So, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on your own plan, goals, and dreams. Whether it's writing a book, starting your own practice, building a studio, or opening a tea shop, we all have something unique to offer the world that can grow and prosper from the purest love we have to give.

Of course, financial stability is essential, but we need to be strategic about the choices we make. I can't subscribe to the idea of working for 90% financial stability and 10% fulfillment, hoping to wake up one day after decades of work, absolutely in love with my career at a certain company. I simply can't embrace that mindset.

As I explore this new path in accounting, I will continue to reserve my creative energy for my podcast (currently at 170K+ channel views) and my photography (including the opportunity to shoot my first celebrity this year and travel the world). These achievements reaffirm the significance of fighting for my passions.

Yes, I'm starting over and diving into a new world, while still dedicating my creative energy to what truly ignites me because I want to be my own BOSS. To achieve that, I must remain open to unexpected paths that may lead to greater fulfillment and creative expression while staying true to my values and goals.

This journey of growth is beautiful, and it feels incredibly empowering. Success is not just about reaching a specific job title or salary, nor is it solely about the timing it takes to achieve understanding or wisdom. It's about finding fulfillment in what we do and genuinely appreciating every moment of this process called GROWTH.

Peace & love to you all.
